A letter can support your housing accommodation request, but it does not guarantee landlord acceptance. Each letter I issue follows a real clinical assessment and includes my license number, NPI and signature. HUD's May 22, 2026 memo limits FHEO findings and recommended charges for animal complaints under the Fair Housing Act to trained disability-related assistance animals. State-law protections and private court rights are separate; see the current HUD guidance and housing-request limits. I provide letter verification support at no additional charge.

I take landlord verification calls and respond to written verification requests at no extra charge. A landlord may confirm that your letter is genuine and that I'm licensed — but they're not entitled to your diagnosis or records, and I never share them.

PNW ESA Letters conducts assessments by phone for adults in Oregon and Washington. I am licensed in both states, and a letter is issued only when clinically appropriate after a real assessment. Telehealth does not guarantee that a housing provider will approve an accommodation request.

Sometimes — and if yours will, that's often the best option. In practice, many therapists and group practices don't write ESA letters, usually because of employer policy or unfamiliarity with Fair Housing documentation requirements. My assessment is designed as a standalone evaluation: one 30-minute phone session focused specifically on whether an emotional support animal fits your care. You don't have to leave your current therapist or commit to ongoing sessions with me, and I'm glad to coordinate with your existing care if you'd like. If a letter is clinically appropriate, it is issued the same day as your completed assessment.

No — and I'll always be upfront about this. Since 2021, airlines are no longer required to accommodate emotional support animals. An ESA letter is for housing, not flights.

Check the live calendar for current appointment times. If an ESA is clinically appropriate, your signed letter is issued the same day as your completed assessment. Same-day letter delivery is not a promise of a same-day appointment.

Students can ask their school's disability or accessibility office about an ESA housing accommodation. Requirements and review timelines vary, and a letter does not guarantee acceptance. There's nothing to prepare, no forms to fill out ahead of time, and you don't need a prior diagnosis on paper.
